BSc Brewing and Distilling (Hons)
The course is organised in co-operation with senior UK and overseas representatives of the brewing, malting and distilling industries who are members of the Board of Management of the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling, a major unit within the School of Life Sciences. It is designed to meet the entrance requirements of the grain-based beverages industries internationally. Successful completion allows exemption from the first professional examinations of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling.
The course aims to educate potential managers of the malting, brewing and distilling industries and provide a full understanding of the science and technology of the processes involved from cereal farming to bottling and packaging.

MSc/PG Diploma Brewing and Distilling
The Brewing and Distilling MSc and Diploma are the only postgraduate brewing and distilling courses in the UK and they enjoy a distinguished reputation among industrialists and academics. Candidates are prepared for entry into the industry or to conduct research. Former students now hold a variety of senior positions in the industry, as well as running their own microbreweries.
The course introduces suitably qualified graduates to the scientific principles of malting, brewing and distilling. Candidates with a first degree of adequate content of Chemical Engineering or Biochemistry/ Microbiology are offered alternative subjects of relevance to the brewing and related industries, normally business studies. Students carry out a short project associated with our experimental malting, brewing and distilling facilities during the second term of the course. The course covers the syllabus of the Diploma in Brewing Examination of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling and successful students qualify for exemption from that examination.

Postgraduate (Distance Learning)
MSc/PG Diploma Brewing and Distilling
The course comprises twelve modules, eleven of which are compulsory. Students with a background in a biological science complete the course with two management modules (Production Management and Basics of Business).
Students with an engineering background complete the course with the module Introductory Biochemistry/Microbiology, and only study a single management module, Basics of Business.
The period of study is a minimum of 2 years, and a maximum of 7 years. Single modules may be taken, for which a certificate is awarded on completion. Completed individual modules can also be credited towards the Diploma.
Successful completion of the entire course will lead to the award of a Diploma and exemption from the Diploma in Brewing Examination of the Institute of Brewing & Distilling.
